Certified
nurse-midwives (CNMs) are registered nurses who
have graduated from an advanced education program which has been
accredited by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. In addition,
CNM's must pass a national certification examination and meet requirements
set by state health agencies.
The
CNM at Los Alamos Women's Health Services is a primary healthcare
provider whose focus is on continuity of care. Our nurse-midwife
is trained and experienced in prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and routine
gynecological care.
Our
obstetrical patients are routinely seen by our CNM; the obstetrician
also performs routine visits and consults for any special needs.
The CNM and physicians collaborate closely in the management of
hospitalized and laboring patients.
The
result is an ideal combination: Hi-tech, personalized care backed
by hi-tech, hospital-based resources.
